Self Reflection

This course was difficult for me and very different from a traditional English class. Throughout this course, I had to complete a variety of writing assignments related to engineering. The difficulty of the assignments caused me to stop doing assignments for 2 weeks. I quickly took myself in my hand and began to catch up on tasks!  It was much harder to catch up, but I managed although it was not easy. This class opened my eyes to the difference between writing in English and writing in academic English. The difficulty of the assignments contributed to my accomplishment in fulfilling the course’s learning outcomes. The assignments which contributed the most to my success were: Formal Letter of Introduction, Product Review,Essay, Leadership-Presentations, Lab Report Analysis Essay, Self-Reflection Memos,Collaborative Project and Presentation.

The Formal letter of Introduction allowed me to accomplish the course learning outcome of  formulating  and articulating a stance through and in your writing. This assignment allowed me to practice writing professional letters. In this letter I wrote about my future engineering goals. In the future formal letters will allow me to communicate with my colleagues, bosses, other companies, or those in authoritative positions like government representatives. 

The Product Review Essay allowed me to accomplish the course learning outcome of negotiating your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation. This assignment allows me to learned how to think critically about an object and the effectiveness of clear and concise rhetoric. As a future engineer, I need to be able to write clearly and concisely, so I will get straight to my point in a way the audience can easily comprehend.

The Leadership-Presentation that I did is about APA Formatting & Citations.The course learning outcome that I accomplish is to strengthen your source use practices (including evaluating, integrating, quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and citing sources). It teaches me that if you want to be trusted you need to cite the work of others as proof. In the future I will need to show my investors plan and proper research by listing sources you used to get your information. To be a responsible scholar by giving credit to other researchers and acknowledging their ideas. To avoid plagiarism by quoting words and ideas used by other authors.

My classmate Christopher  prepared another Leadership-Presentation about Revising that helped me accomplish, acknowledge your and others’ range of linguistic differences as resources, and draw on those resources to develop rhetorical sensibility. It helps me learn that the opinions of other people make me take the time to analyze, and then think of the best possible solution to perform better. In the future before I will show my final draft to my investor, boss I will revise my first drafts. I will do that by asking other people for feedback and will analyze how to improve that. So the final draft would look strong.   

My classmate Ricci,Joseph Marco prepared The Leadership-Presentation about the Writing Process. It helped me accomplish the course learning outcome of engaging in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond.  It helped me to involve four distinct steps in my writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. In the future those steps will help me break my writing tasks into manageable parts, making the work less intimidating. It will also aid in reducing the anxiety and stress that comes with writing and explore effective writing.

 The lab report analysis essay allowed me to accomplish the course learning outcome of practicing using various library resources, online databases, and the Internet to locate sources which were relevant to the topic.  My lab report was about covid-19 causes and in order to do that I need to comprehend 3 different lab reports. In order to do that I used the CUNY database. After the completion of this essay I felt that I was adept at using various resources. In the future, using a variety of sources from different places will  help my reader distinguish my ideas from those sources. This will actually emphasize the originality of my own work.

The Collaborative Project and Presentation allowed me to accomplish the course learning outcome of  develop and engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes. In this project my group did a proposal and live presentation of our innovation.There was a lot of material and in order to achieve success and complete everything, we had to work together. In the future as an engineer, client satisfaction is vital, alongside guaranteeing that the end product provides a safe and structurally sound solution to a product. Both effectiveness and efficiency in development and research of engineering projects are promoted through collaboration.  

The Self-Reflection Memo allowed me to accomplish the course learning outcome of enhancing strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment. It helped me analyze  all my work from beginning to end. And come to the conclusion how I will need to act more efficiently when I perform a similar task next time .In the future  self reflection will help me think more diversely so I can respond  to the ever-increasing challenges that society faces.

 This class taught me a lot about digging deeper into my writing and always looking for improvements that could be made. It was challenging but also very beneficial. The grading in this class was tough but this was helpful because a bad grade provided motivation to do better on the next assignment. All in all this class helped me grow overall as a writer.
